Liverpool are reportedly not willing to trigger the release clause in the contract of Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva.
Silva, 19, has had a breakout season under Roger Schmidt as Benfica compete for Primeira Liga and Champions League glory.
Silva has four goals in 37 appearances for the Eagles, starting 23 Premier League games and assisting the league leaders in keeping 15 clean sheets on route to first place.
The 2003-born center-back has also started all eight Champions League games for Benfica as the Eagles prepare to face Inter Milan in the quarter-finals.
Given his age and swift ascent for his hometown club, Silva has drawn interest from a number of other major European clubs, but Benfica has tied him down to a new long-term contract until September.
The contract for the teenager includes a €100m (£87.3m) release clause, but Benfica are unwilling to negotiate a lower fee and demand that the figure be paid in full before parting ways with Silva.
Liverpool are said to have kept an eye on Silva during the first half of the season, but his £87.3m release clause have put them off, according to A Bola, via The Mirror.
With Benfica continuously showing to be ruthless negotiators, Liverpool will appear to admit defeat in their pursuit of Silva lest they alter their minds about paying his release clause.

Real Madrid are also thought to be monitoring Silva’s progress, though it is unknown whether Los Blancos would be willing to meet Benfica’s financial demands as well.
In addition to Silva, Liverpool are said to be monitoring the situation of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Evan Ndicka, whose contract with the German giants expires this summer.
