Liverpool ‘Very Eager’ On £67.4M PSG Player As Report Reveals Manchester United ‘Veto’ Ahead Of 2025 Transfer

Liverpool were ‘very interested’ in acquiring Xavi Simons this summer, with the Dutchman targeting a transfer to the Premier League in 2025.

The Reds enjoyed a quiet summer, signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus and reaching an agreement in principle with Valencia to bring Giorgi Mamardashvili to Anfield in 2025.

Their first aim was Martin Zubimendi, but after triggering his £51 million contract, Liverpool failed to persuade the 25-year-old to quit his boyhood club.

They may have more luck in January, if a new story in Spain is to be believed, and they will undoubtedly be keeping a watch on Simons, who has previously expressed an interest in the Netherlands playmaker.

Simons has only played 11 professional games for PSG, but he was extremely impressive on loan at RB Leipzig last season and returned to the Bundesliga giants this season, despite extensive interest in his services from other teams this summer.

Bild journalist Yvonne Gabriel has now stated that Simons wants to move to the Premier League, with PSG preparing to sell the playmaker next year, and that Liverpool will be in the running for the 21-year-old after being “extremely keen” in the summer.

Gabriel told the FC Bayern Insider podcast that PSG would prefer to sell him next year, but Xavi sees himself at a better club.

In His Words?

“His price tag, which is already estimated to be greater over €80 million (£67.4 million, $89.4 million), is ideal for Leipzig. With such numbers, the Premier League automatically comes into play, as it is Xavi’s desired destination, which is why he hired a new advisor, Englishman Darren Dyne, one year ago.

“It is fair to say that Xavi has been on the league’s radar for quite some time. Liverpool were also interested in him this summer, and there is a nice relationship to coach Arne Slot.”

Gabriel has also spoken out about PSG’s decision to allow Simons to stay at Leipzig for another year.

“RB Leipzig are certainly happy that Xavi Simons will stay another year. “The boss’s greatest hope is that his brutal mentality will be transferred to the entire team and, at the very least, lead them to titles,” Gabriel stated earlier this month.

“Either way, it is already clear that the chances of Xavi staying at Leipzig beyond this season are very, very slim.”
