Liverpool is still in the running to sign Florian Wirtz, a midfielder for Bayer Leverkusen, this summer, even though Premier League rivals Manchester City are very interested.

Despite speculations that only Man City and Bayern Munich are vying for the Germany international’s signature, the Reds have not been eliminated from the race after the season.
Wirtz hasn’t said whether he would rather join either of the two teams, which are reportedly at the top of the list, or stay at Leverkusen, where he has a contract through June 2027.
The 21-year-old would become Liverpool’s record-breaking addition, exceeding the £85 million they spent on Darwin Nunez in 2022, if a deal were to be reached for an estimated £87 million.
As he emerges as “the best No.10 in world football” following an outstanding stint with Leverkusen, Wirtz has no shortage of admirers throughout Europe.
While Man City and Bayern Munich are reportedly leading the race to capture the offensive midfielder, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Real Madrid all value him, reports Give Me Sport.
Last season, Wirtz played a key role in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga campaign, contributing 23 goals in 32 games and helping Xabi Alonso’s team win their first-ever German league title.
In 39 games in all competitions this season, the 21-year-old has been as brilliant, tallying 15 goals and dishing out 13 assists.
