Lothar Matthaus has predicted that some of the Monaco stars lighting up European football this season could soon be on the move to Bayern Munich.
The French side are chasing silverware on two fronts as the season reaches its climax, with a three-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 and a meeting with Juventus in the semi-finals of the Champions League this week.
Inevitably, the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernardo Silva have been attracting plenty of interest from Europe’s elite clubs, and the German giants are no exception.
Although Bayern claimed a sixth successive Bundesliga title with a 6-0 rout of Wolfsburg at the weekend, they fell at the quarter-final stage in the Champions League and lost in the semi-finals of the German Cup.
And Matthaus claimed that the club’s head scout is closely monitoring Monaco’s brightest talents.
He told Sky Sport Deutschland: ‘I have learned that Michael Reschke, the chief scout at Bayern, was in the stadium at the Champions League match between AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund, and certainly not because of the players at Borussia Dortmund.
‘I would not be surprised if one or more players from Monaco play for Bayern next season.’
