Lukaku admits he’s open to Man United reunion with Mourinho

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed he is open to working with Jose Mourinho again, possibly at Manchester United, despite the coach selling him at Chelsea.

Lukaku departed the Blues on a permanent deal in 2014 for the Toffees, ending a three-year spell at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian international was sold by Mourinho, who couldn’t guarantee the striker first team football, but Lukaku has been in excellent form since for Everton.

The Toffees no.10 has scored 18 Premier League goals this campaign, leading to rumours that the striker could leave in the summer with Manchester United apparently keen.

With his father stating this week that his son should opt to move to the Red Devils or Bayern Munich, Lukaku has admitted he is open to a transfer and would consider working with Mourinho again, with the Portuguese coach touted as the next manager at Old Trafford.

Speaking to DHNet, when asked if he would work with Mourinho again, the 22- year-old said: “Of course. Some may say I need to convince him but it is not about that.

“It was three years ago, I was 20 and I was not ready to be completely effective in a team top. Several good seasons, including the current one, have changed the situation. I am only 23 years old and I could leave this summer.”

Lukaku’s future is certainly unclear with Everton far off battling for European football this campaign. Instead, Roberto Martinez’s squad are sat 12th in the table and are fading in the Premier League.

With Lukaku’s goalscoring form one of Everton’s best aspects this season, the Merseyside cannot realistically afford to lose the striker, but may be faced with that prospect this summer.
