Romelu Lukaku has emerged as a clear candidate for Milan, who are prepared to compete with Antonio Conte’s Napoli for the Chelsea renegade.
The 31-year-old Belgian striker spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Roma, where he continued to impress in the Italian top flight, scoring 21 goals and providing four assists in 47 games. With no buy clause, he returned to West London this month.

Conte has begun a new project at Napoli and wishes to rejoin with Lukaku, but the transfer cannot be completed until a buyer is found for Victor Osimhen, who has a €120-130 million release clause. Meanwhile, Chelsea wants to cut their losses by selling the Belgian striker, who has no place in Enzo Maresca’s squad.
Milan is serious about Lukaku.
According to page 26 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan is really interested in signing Lukaku this summer if they decide to abandon their pursuit of Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee, whose €15 million in agent commissions has caused things to stop.
The Rossoneri, hoping to capitalize on their good relationship with Chelsea, would try to sign the Belgian forward on loan. He would be delighted to return to San Siro and the Lombardy capital, where he shone for Inter before his catastrophic transfer to London.
Milan pursued Lukaku last summer and would be delighted to welcome the striker, even if the deal would be more contentious for their fans given his Nerazzurri background and on-field fight with now-director Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
