Nemanja Matic lash out at Andre Onana, calling him “one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United’s history” after the goalie said the Premier League team was “way better” than Lyon, reports Irish Examiner.
The first leg of Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils’ crucial Europa League matchup is scheduled for Thursday at the Groupama Stadium.
Onana stated that defeating Lyon, who are now ranked fifth in Ligue 1, would be “not going to be easy, but I think we are way better than them” following Sunday’s Manchester derby.
On the eve of the first leg, Matic, a typically quiet former United midfielder, made that bold statement.
“I’m not sure, but you know, you have to have a defense for that kind of thing. “Onana?” Before puffing out his cheeks, he said, glancing at the reporter.
“I respect everyone, but you have to have an explanation before you can say that.

“You should be careful what you say if you are among the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history.
“If David De Gea or Peter Schmeichel or (Edwin) van der Sar said that, then I would question myself.
“But if you’re one of the statistically worst goalkeepers in Man United’s modern history, then he needs to show that before he says. We will see.”
