Trainer Ger Lyons is confident his star colt Siskin will kick on in 2020 and pick up some big victories along the way. Siskin, owned by Khalid Abdullah, is unbeaten in four starts to date and landed his first Group One success at the Curragh on August 9, holding off Monarch Of Egypt to win the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes. The son of First Defence was set to put his record on the line at Newmarket in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes in September, but he went down in the stalls and had to be withdrawn from the race. Lyons’ charge came away from the incident unscathed and the County Meath trainer is feeling positive heading into 2020, revealing the Guineas and Commonwealth Cup are big targets. “It was a shock what happened with him at Newmarket, but thankfully he came out of it OK,” said the County Meath trainer. “We’ll look forward to next year now, and he’ll be in the Guineas and other races. “He goes into the winter unbeaten and is a lovely horse to have. I’m very proud to have him in the yard.”
