Leicester City midfielder James Maddison will sit down with England boss Gareth Southgate to smooth the waters, according to reports. Maddison, 22, has yet to make a senior Three Lions appearance but seemed ready for his debut during October’s international break.
The Foxes midfielder was called up for Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria but pulled out of the squad due to illness.
He was then spotted in a casino while the rest of the England squad were still together, promoting fierce criticism in the media amid suggestions that he may have dented his international hopes.
There is no question that the former Norwich City man is good enough to play at the top level as he has looked right at home in a Leicester side that sit third in the Premier League table and seem genuine contenders to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
However, questions had been raised over his personality before the latest incident reared its head and the casino pictures only seemed to confirm the worries.
Southgate will soon name his squad for fixtures against Montenegro and Kosovo later this month and Maddison has been tipped to stay in the party.
The Daily Star is reporting that the former Aston Villa defender has not spoken to the young schemer since the news broke and will sit down for a one-to-one with him later this month.
Maddison has scored three goals from 10 top-flight appearances in 2019-2020 and been linked to a number of top clubs but has continually stressed that he wants to knuckle down at the King Power Stadium to continue his development.
Progress has been swift on the pitch and now the challenge is for the Coventry-born ace to get things right away from the action to ensure that he fulfils his undoubted potential at all levels.
