Madrid ‘could face competition from Manchester United’ for Neymar as he nears £200m PSG exit

Real Madrid ‘could face competition from Manchester United’ in pursuit of Paris-Saint Germain star Neymar this summer.

Los Blancos are looking to revitalise an ageing attack ahead of next season and while they appear frontrunners should Neymar leave Paris, the Sunday Mirror report that United also hold an interest in the player.

Neymar would cost any suitors in excess of £200million having joined PSG from Barcelona last summer for a world record £198m.

Despite the eye-watering sums on the table – Neymar’s £30m-a-year wages are another factor to consider in any deal – United would be keen to bring the samba star to Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old has had a mixed debut season in Ligue 1 where it began frosty both with manager Unai Emery and team-mate Edinson Cavani following a row over penalty duties.

He failed to fire the Parisians to the latter stages of the Champions League and has missed the final part of the season after suffering a serious injury.

Ahead of a timely return to fitness before the World Cup with Brazil this summer, Neymar will remain a hot topic of debate in the transfer market.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is adamant that the Brazilian superstar will not be sold this summer.

Al-Khelaifi sent out a defiant message, insisting that the 26-year-old is not for sale at any cost and will remain at the Parc des Princes next season.

‘Who said he cannot stay here? Did anyone say that? Nobody,’ Al-Khelaifi told reporters.

‘He has a contract with us and he will stay, 2,000 per cent.’
