Madrid File Complaint Against Referee Over Offensive Chants Against Vinicius

Real Madrid have reportedly lodged a complaint against referee Juan Martinez Munuera for ‘voluntarily and deliberately’ ignoring offensive chants against Vinicius Jr.

Over the past few weeks, Vinicius has been the target of persistent jeers in the Spanish football community.

Supporters of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have been especially targeting the Brazilian. And this trend continued when Madrid played Osasuna.

In contrast, Vinicius had a different encounter during Osasuna’s game. He had an incredible game on one side scoring a brace.

Conversely, he was subjected to derogatory taunts from the El Sadar stands, which were captured on camera in full, including shouts such as “Vinicius, d*e!”

La Liga duly reported these incidents. Real Madrid players warned the referee, Munuera, but he failed to record this behavior in the match report. The Spanish giants, however, vehemently defended their player in response.

“After the serious insults uttered, once again, against our player Vinicius Junior, in this case during the last League match played by our team at El Sadar, Real Madrid CF communicates the following,” read a statement from the club.

“Our club has filed a complaint with the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation against the match referee Juan Martínez Munuera, as a result of the negligent drafting of the referee’s report.

“In addition, Real Madrid has also filed a complaint with this federative body in relation to the aforementioned insults and humiliating shouts, and has forwarded them to the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in the Sports, so that those who uttered them are identified and punished,” the statement read.
