Zinedine Zidane has opened the door for Real Madrid to move for Harry Kane after describing the Tottenham striker as “a complete player.”
Zidane paid a glowing tribute to in-form Kane on the eve of their Champions League showdown with Tottenham in what sounded like the start of Madrid going public with their attempts to sign him.
The Spanish giants are plotting a huge £150m move for Kane next summer and Zidane’s comments suggest the England star is top of his transfer hit-list.
The Real Madrid boss’s remarks are certain to turn up the heat before the clash in the Bernabéu with Tottenham increasingly concerned about the growing interest in their prize asset.
Zidane said: “In the present what he’s doing, he’s a very important player, a key player for Tottenham, very good at everything but he always does it all towards the goal.
“He does not stay, he takes the space with speed and he’s very good. He’s a complete player. He didn’t seem to be but in the end he is.”
Zidane made similar public statements about Gareth Bale before Real Madrid signed the Wales star from Tottenham for a then record £85m in 2013.
It was a clear tactic to turn up the pressure and the Spanish media are convinced they will move for Kane and his Spurs teammate Dele Alli. Yesterday morning, sports newspaper Marca, which is particularly close to Real Madrid, had Kane on their front page.
Kane, who has scored 15 goals in his last 11 games, admitted two weeks ago he could consider moving abroad in the future.
But Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris insists that Kane will not be distracted by Real Madrid’s public overtures.
Lloris said: “It’s part of football. It’s been going on for a while now. It happens every week. It’s about for there to be speculation about Harry Kane. He’s done such fantastic things for Tottenham and for sure will continue in this way.
“Harry has talked enough about his commitment to Tottenham and his love for the club. It’s just part of football through the media. He will not be distracted. Quite the opposite.”
