Madrid Winger Insists Fight Against Racism Will Persist

Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Jr insists his fight against racism will continue following his recipient of the Socrates award for his contributions off field at the Balon d’Or ceremony on Monday.

Vinicius, 23, has endured many racial taunts during La Liga matches for the past two seasons. He was honored with gong for establishing a foundation that finances school construction in Brazil and builds schools in underdeveloped areas.

What Did Vinicius Say About His Fight Against Racism?

“I will remain strong in the fight against racism,” said the Brazilian, who received the award from the Prince of Monaco.

“It is a very sad thing to talk about racism nowadays, but we have to continue in the fight so that people suffer less.

“Very happy to receive this award and to help many children in Brazil. I had little chance of getting where I have coming from where I came so it is a pleasure for me to help as many kids as I can.”

After scoring 23 goals for Real Madrid in all competitions in the previous season, the 23-year-old was the only Brazilian in the top 10 of the Ballon d’Or rankings this year.

The forward also gave Pele a heartfelt tribute.

“Pele is god for me and if I am here today, it is thanks to him. He put Brazil on a different level and people respect Brazilian players thanks to the great legacy he left,” Vinicius concluded.

The Brazilian trickster will now switch his attention towards his club side as they aim to wrestle Laliga title from their eternal rivals, Barcelona.

The team managed by Carlo Ancelotti are currently top of the Laliga standings with 28 points, leveled with Girona. So far this season, Vinicius has played 10 games, scoring three goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions.
