Mainoo Faces ‘Big Issue’ Over Agreeing Man United Offer Amid PSG, Bayern Interest

Manchester United midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo reportedly has “a big issue” with departing Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.

After making his debut in the first team during Erik ten Hag’s time at United, the Red Devils academy graduate has been one of the team’s shining spots in recent seasons.

With his time as the Red Devils manager, Ruben Amorim has occasionally used him further forward and has been impressed by several facets of the 19-year-old’s game.

But in order to extend his contract, Mainoo is asking for £150,000 a week, which is more than Sir Jim Ratcliffe is willing to give the young player.

After it became apparent that they could find it difficult to sign the England international to a new deal, there are rumors that United will now sell him during the summer transfer window.

However, according to Stefan Borson, a former financial counsel for Manchester City, United may have trouble looking for a team willing to pay £40–50 million for the teenager.

What Did Borson Say About Mainoo Situation At Man United?

Borson told Football Insider: “He’s a valuable player from a PSR perspective because it goes straight to the bottom line and it’s close to pure profit from a PSR perspective.

“But you’ve got to replace that player and it sounds like his wages at the moment are manageable.

“Really what you end up doing is taking an immediate profit but then spreading the cost over the next five years, so I don’t think the Mainoo sale will be driven by PSR. I think they’ll have a look at whether the player is considered good enough.

“I think there’s a big issue as to where he’s going to go abroad. Don’t really see that. No league in the world can outpay what the Premier League would pay, so I think if he’s going to go, the likelihood is he stays in the Premier League somewhere.”
