Two days ago, journalist David Bernabeu told Sport’s La Possession that Barcelona president Joan Laporta had a ‘obsession’ with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
Since joining Manchester City in 2022, the striker has often been linked with a move to Real Madrid. He is also considering joining the Catalan club.
Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, has spoken with Mundo Deportivo extensively on a variety of topics. As part of the conversation, he compared Robert Lewandowski to the 24-year-old.
Lewandowski turned 36 in August, and his contract at the Camp Nou runs until 2026, with an option for another year. The tabloid inquired Deco if the Blaugrana were looking for a successor for the Pole.
The director says it isn’t a priority for them right now and that replacing the former Bayern Munich player won’t be easy.

“I believe it is extremely difficult to find a forward like Robert today.” There are one or two at this level. Perhaps Haaland or someone else? “There aren’t many of this level available,” he explained.
“But we aren’t going to be preoccupied with finding a striker right now because we want to focus on what Robert can achieve. I think he’s glad to be here. He is a winner, and if we have a successful season, I believe he will want to continue.”
The La Liga side has suffered financially in recent years. Mundo expressly asked the Barcelona official if signing the Manchester City star is ‘utopia’ given their fiscal situation.
“First, we need to determine whether Haaland is what we want for the future. “We don’t know that now,” Deco said.
“At the moment we don’t want any ‘nine’. We have Robert. We are not planning anything with any ‘nine’.
