John Aldridge feels that, unlike Everton, neither Manchester City nor Chelsea will face a significant points deduction.
The Toffees were docked ten points on Friday after being judged to have violated the Premier League’s financial rules. Club officials have acknowledged that they will appeal the punishment, which has landed them in the relegation zone.
City fans are concerned following Everton’s point deduction. The only other club penalized by the Premier League for breaking financial regulations is the European champions. They are accused of breaking more than 100 rules between 2009 and 2018.

City is yet to learn what, if any, punishment the Premier League intends to inflict. Chelsea might potentially face examination amid reports of payments linked to ex-owner Roman Abramovich, even though the Premier League has not charged them.
However, Liverpool veteran Aldridge, who has called Everton’s points loss “excessive,” believes neither City nor Chelsea will face a punishment akin to Everton’s. He believes the clubs have sufficient financial clout to keep the Premier League at bay.
“Everton were a sitting duck,” Aldridge said, according to Liverpool ECHO. “I’m not sure how you measure it, so I guess it all boils down to what happens in the future.” We’ve all seen what’s happened at Chelsea under Roman Abramovich or at Manchester City – 115 charges.
“Was it because the other teams performed well?” Who else is in the top six? Perhaps it has something to do with Everton’s lack of funds to battle it.
“City and Chelsea have unlimited funds, so they’ve scared off the people who have been trying to do things for years, delaying and postponing… Everton couldn’t physically accomplish it, but I’m sure they could with the same resources.”
