Man City Blame Liverpool After Wolves Rejected A £47 Million Bid For Matheus Nunes

Manchester City’s pursuit of Matheus Nunes may be blamed on Liverpool, with Wolves apparently rejecting their original £47 million approach.

Pep Guardiola is eager to add another midfielder before the transfer market ends, especially after Kevin De Bruyne’s injury setback.

West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta was their initial target, but the Hammers refused to sell, and City quickly dropped their interest. The defending Premier League champions have since turned their attention to Wolves’ Nunes.

According to the Telegraph, Wolves rejected an opening approach of £47 million. The offer is alleged to have ‘fallen significantly short’ of what Wolves would contemplate before selling the excellent midfielder.

City’s move for Nunes comes just months after Liverpool registered their interest in the Portuguese star. Liverpool had their eyes on Nunes before Wolves snapped him up for £38m 12 months ago.

It was reported that Nunes originally had a £44m release clause inserted into his contract at Wolves, but Liverpool’s interest prompted them to remove it. That clause would have reportedly been active in January this year, but Wolves moved quickly to take it out of Nunes’ contract.
City may now have to pay the price for that clause being removed as Wolves will not want to lose the 24-year-old for cheap this late in the window. Wolves have already seen star players such as Ruben Neves, Adama Traore, Raul Jimenez and Nathan Collins all leave the club this summer.
