Rodri might still play for Manchester City this season, assuming he has a voice in the issue.
Rodri is out for the season after damaging his knee against Arsenal in September, and his absence is a huge blow for City, especially given his recent Ballon d’Or win.
Pep Guardiola and City have insisted Rodri will miss the entire season while recovering from his ACL injury, but the midfielder is hoping to prove his manager wrong.
Speaking for the first time about his recovery status, Rodri sees the Club World Cup as an ambitious return target, given that it takes place in June and July.

He told COPE: “Now that the seasons are getting longer and the [FIFA Club] World Cup is ending on July 13, I’m thinking about returning this year as a challenge.”
‘I’ve started walking and feel better than I expected… [Spanish teammate] Gavi used to remark, ‘I need to play football’. At my age, you view things differently; you have time to rest and heal properly.
Rodri attended last week’s Ballon d’Or ceremony on crutches, and Guardiola has repeatedly stated that the star midfielder will not play again this season.
