Manchester City has suffered another injury setback when Nathan Aké underwent foot surgery.
The Netherlands defender was substituted at halftime of Saturday’s 3-1 FA Cup victory over Plymouth Argyle.
Aké, who has only made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, underwent surgery on Monday to treat a long-standing foot condition and is expected to be sidelined for a long time.
Through a social media post, Aké stated: “This has been such a frustrating season for me but I’ve now had successful surgery on a fracture in my foot which has been bothering me for months and I’m looking positively to the future.”
City Are yet to set a timeline for Aké’s comeback.
Pep Guardiola’s club has 11 more league games left, plus an FA Cup quarterfinal against Bournemouth.
Their season will be prolonged as they compete in the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins in the United States in June. City has not yet set a timeline for Aké’s comeback.

Guardiola will be concerned about Aké’s absence, considering he has already lost John Stones due to injury.
The England defender might be out for up to 10 weeks due to a muscle injury sustained during the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.
Manuel Akanji is injured, leaving Rúben Dias as Guardiola’s only fit senior center-back.
Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, who signed in January, are expected to play important roles between now and the conclusion of the season, while Josko Gvardiol, who Guardiola typically deploys as a left-back, can also step in.
After exiting the Champions League early, City will have a week off before facing Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.
Vinícius Júnior is enthusiastic about the potential of Neymar returning to the Brazil squad for their next World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Colombia.
Brazil will unveil their roster on Thursday, and Neymar is expected to be included.
The 33-year-old has not played for Brazil since the country’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023, when he had a major knee injury that kept him out for a year.
Vinícius expressed high expectations for Neymar, describing him as “the idol of our generation.”
