Manchester City are reportedly ready to offer Barcelona’s Lionel Messi a €7-
million increase on his current contract at the Camp Nou should he join the
Citizens, as per Goal.
The South American superstar currently earns €20-million a year in Spain and
he isn’t expected to hold contract talks with the club until the end of next
season.
However, the Catalonian’s are said to be confident that the 28-year-old will
reject City’s offer just like he has done with Chelsea and Paris Saint-
Germain in the past.
However, the report indicates that City will not make a formal offer to
Barcelona until they are completely confident that the Argentinian
international want’s to join them.
Any club in the world would benefit from Messi’s talents, who is nominated
for this years Ballon d’Or, but he would surely flourish at the Etihad
Stadium where he would play alongside his international team-mate Sergio
Aguero in their attack.
Despite missing two months of football this season, Messi has already scored
five goals in La Liga and three goals in the Champions League.
Aguero is City’s top scorer in the Premier League by comparison with seven
goals, but he has also suffered an injury-hit campaign, playing just 11 games
in the league in total.
