Manchester City are prepared to hijack Arsenal‘s move for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners had a £29 million bid for Lacazette turned down last summer, and are set to reignite their interest in the France international.
However, as reported by the Mirror, City are also interested in signing Lacazette, who is valued at £40 million.
City already have a stellar striker at their disposal in Sergio Aguero, while January arrival Gabriel Jesus showed some hugely encouraging signs prior to his injury, but manager Pep Guardiola is said to still be looking to bring in a new attacking option.
Lacazette has been prolific this campaign – he has scored 24 goals in 27 Ligue 1 appearances – and there will surely be several clubs interested in signing him when the transfer window re-opens.
Although the differing quality of the leagues which they play in certainly needs to be taken into account, Lacazette has outperformed Aguero in several aspects this season.
Indeed, the Lyon player has (per 90 minutes) scored more goals, provided more assists and created a higher amount of chances than his City counterpart, while he also boasts a superior average shot accuracy and has completed a higher proportion of his attempted take-ons.
