Man City Star Overlooks Rodri When Naming Ballon d’Or Winner

Ederson Moraes has reportedly overlooked his Manchester City teammate, Rodri when stating who he believes should win the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

The 30-year-old has instead gone for his Brazilian teammate, Vinicius Junior as the one he feels should be winning football’s most prestigious individual award.

Because of his contributions to City’s continual Premier League domination and Spain’s victory at Euro 2024, Rodri is among the favorites to be named the finest football player in the world.

However, Real Madrid star, Vinicius is the midfielder’s biggest challenge. The Selecao performed poorly at the Copa America and lost in the quarterfinals.

So, the Brazilian winger was unsuccessful at the South American tournament. However, during the club season, he played a key role in Madrid’s achievement of an uncommon La Liga and Champions League double.

According to 90min, Ederson hopes his international colleague will take home the Ballon d’Or.

“I hope Vini Jr. wins it. He deserves it for everything he did last season,” the goalkeeper told TNT Sports BR while on international duty over the weekend.

Vinicius Junior, who Real Madrid paid a lot of money for when he was just 16 would be the first player born in the 21st century to win the Ballon d’Or.

Paradoxically, if Rodri goes on to win it, he is going to become the first player born in the 1990s to do so.

It is very strange to think that players born after 1989 haven’t had a chance to win the gong between 2008 and 2023 due to the complete dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The only other winners of the Ballon d’Or in recent memory are Luka Modric and Karim Benzema, both of whom were born in the 1980s.
