Manchester City forward, Julian Alvarez is reportedly set to miss the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season following his inclusion in Argentina’s squad for the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Alvarez, 24, will be one of three players in Javier Mascherano’s squad who are overage in Paris as he attempts to add another medal to his collection as the World Cup and Treble champion.
According to Manchester Evening News, Alvarez requested to be considered for selection, after his time in the Copa America and City obliged. Under Pep Guardiola’s leadership, Barcelona sent a teenage Lionel Messi on to win gold in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Alvarez has another chance to play at the international level, thus City will probably be without him for the opening few weeks of the campaign.
Following the conclusion of the Copa America on July 14, football in the Olympics continues until August 9, the day before City play United in the Community Shield and a week before they battle Chelsea in the Premier League.
All players should take three weeks off over the summer between seasons, as advised by FIFPro. However, given the expected workload that their stars will encounter, Guardiola and the City medical staff will prefer to give their stars more time.
The Blues are well aware that they will compete in the Club World Cup and the UEFA Champions League in their expanded forms throughout the upcoming season.

Guardiola will have to prepare without Alvarez during the first few weeks of the season unless he disregards medical advice and doesn’t get any rest.
Manchester United playmaker Alejandro Garnacho has not been included in the Argentina squad, while Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez has for the Albiceleste.
