Man City ‘Warn Nathan Ake Suitors That He Is ‘Not For Sale’

Manchester City have reportedly told interested clubs that Nathan Ake will not be up for sale during the January transfer window.

The Netherlands international was heavily linked with a return to Chelsea over the summer, but a mooted transfer to Stamford Bridge fell through.

The 27-year-old has played regularly for Man City this season, making nine appearances across all leagues, including six in the Premier League. The Dutchman is proving to be a key player this season.

The Citizens added Manuel Akanji to their defensive options over the summer, but both John Stones and Aymeric Laporte have been out with injuries this season.

Inter Milan, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich are among the clubs that have contacted Man City to express an interest in the defender, according to 90min.

Is Ake Staying At Man City Next Summer?

However, according to the report, Man City have stated that Ake will not be leaving the club at the start of 2023 due to his importance to the team.

The defender has started the last two Premier League games against Manchester United and Southampton, but he was just a late substitute against Copenhagen earlier this week in the Champions League.

Ake stated ahead of the European match in Denmark that he is “delighted” to be at the Etihad Stadium and believes he can continue to be a significant player for the club.

“In the end I’m happy to be here. Sometimes these things happen [transfer links and rumours] and in the end I’m very happy that I stayed.

You have to learn, and I have learned a lot over the years. It’s interesting and I had to get used to it in the first season but now I know it,” he told reporters.

“I feel I am progressing well and hopefully it can continue like this. I am happy to be here.”

Ake joined Man City from Bournemouth in 2020 and has played 49 times for the Citizens in all competitions, scoring four times.

Meanwhile, the Dutchman has three years left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, putting Pep Guardiola’s team in a solid position to keep him despite the mounting interest.
