Donny van de Beek has completed a permanent transfer from Manchester United to Girona in a massive cut-price fee.
The Red Devils, then under the management of Ole Gunnar-Solskjaer signed Van de Beek for £35 million, rising to £40 million with add-ons from Ajax in 2020. But the Dutchman never lived up to expectations as he was seen as a misfit and was sent out to several clubs on loan, the most recent, Eintracht Frankfurt.
It appeared to satisfy every need. Before Real Madrid’s finances collapsed because of the Covid-19 epidemic, Van de Beek was scheduled to arrive at the Bernabeu.
A 23-year-old midfielder who had been a bright spot in Ajax’s run to the Champions League semifinals was acquired by United when they interjected.
If this deal had a weakness, it would be that it was overly self-serving. Before finalizing the move, Van de Beek spoke with Solskjaer.
But there didn’t seem to be a strategy for where he would slot in. Although he is better in a more advanced role, he ended up playing deep. Bruno Fernandes filled the lovely playmaker seat at Old Trafford without hesitation.
The City Football Group-owned club are acting opportunistically, much like United did four years ago. They intend to resurrect the greatest performance from their seasoned midfielder, who has a Champions League pedigree.

According to Manchester Evening News, the distinction is that this deal, with an initial investment of €450,000, is virtually risk-free, even when adding in €4.5 million in reasonably add-ons.
With only one year remaining on his contract, showed the cut-price agreement. At this point, United didn’t want to approve a free transfer. His injury history and lack of form didn’t exactly encourage clubs to line up for the Dutchman.
