Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich defender, Matthijs De Ligt over a possible summer transfer move to Old Trafford.
United manager, Erik ten Hag has been trying to get a move done for his former Ajax defender.
There have been discussions about a prospective £42 million transfer with Bayern.
The Manchester Evening News reports that Man United and De Ligt have now verbally agreed on personal terms.
One position that has been identified as critical to the Red Devils this summer is central defence.
The Premier League giants intend to invest in two center backs and have had a second proposal of £45 million, increasing to £50 million, rejected for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. Branthwaite is valued at between £70m and £80m by Everton.
Raphael Varane has been released by United, and as Victor Lindelof’s contract expires in January, they also wish to sell the center back.
Rafaela Pimenta, De Ligt’s agent, is already acquainted with United. During the last year, she was welcomed to the team’s training facility.
Before signing a £68 million contract to join Juventus in 2019, De Ligt was an Ajax player under the management of Ten Hag. Four of the five former Ajax players who are now in the United squad joined after Ten Hag took over in May 2022.

When De Ligt was a teenager at Ajax, United scouted him. Later, Derek Langley, the team’s head of youth recruitment at the time, disclosed that the Dutchman’s transfer request was denied.
De Ligt has not featured in any of the Netherlands’ five games in Germany, despite being a member of the Dutch squad for the European Championship.
