Harry Kane ‘will push for a transfer’ away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer if Jose Mourinho’s team fail to qualify for the Champions League, reports Daily Mail.
The England captain is reportedly ‘running out of patience’ with the team’s progress and is ‘frustrated’ by a lack of silverware.
If Spurs don’t make it into Europe’s elite competition for next season, Kane is willing to tell the club hierarchy he would like to move on, with Manchester City and Manchester United the most likely destinations.
However, as The Athletic report, extracting himself from his six-year contract at Tottenham could prove incredibly difficult with chairman Daniel Levy likely to dig in his heels and demand a very high transfer fee.
They say that although Kane, 27, has the opportunity to win the first major trophy of his career when Spurs face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on April 25, he feels his chances of winning the Premier League or the Champions League are receding.
The Athletic says that for the first time in his Tottenham career, Kane is beginning to envisage his future elsewhere.
He is midway through a six-year contract at the club and Spurs regard their star striker as ‘not for sale’ regardless of the price.
As well as Levy’s famously tough stance on transfer negotiations, another factor counting against Kane is other world class but younger or similar age strikers such as Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund, Romelu Lukaku of Inter Milan and Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain could also be on the market this summer.
The number of elite clubs who would be able to afford these players has diminished amid the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, potentially reducing the number of suitors.
Nonetheless, the two Manchester clubs would be interested if Kane became available.
City are searching for a replacement for the departing centre forward Sergio Aguero, but are also keen on Haaland.
United are also in need of a prolific striker to challenge City for the Premier League title next season. They too regard Haaland as a prime target.
The Athletic say that although Kane would consider a move abroad, including a possible reunion with former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino at PSG, or one of the Spanish giants Barcelona or Real Madrid, his preference is to stay in the Premier League.
Kane, for some time now one of the Premier League’s most reliable goalscorers, is enjoying another superb season, with 29 goals and 16 assists in all competitions.
