Rashford has informed United that he wishes to leave Old Trafford in order to pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere.
For the rest of the season, a number of teams have expressed interest in signing the 27-year-old on loan.
These include Chelsea, West Ham, and Tottenham, among others.
However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the head of the INEOS chemicals firm and a co-owner of United, is reportedly unwilling to let Rashford join one of his team’s direct competitors.
Ratcliffe is unwilling to risk having one of his own players hurt United’s prospects of qualifying for Europe this season, especially as United may have to pay a substantial portion of Rashford’s £350,000 weekly salary.
The English Man has received offers to sign with teams in the American Major League Soccer league and Saudi Arabia.
However, he wishes to stay in Europe in order to increase his prospects of rejoining the England team, reports Daily Star.
AC Milan is in the lead to sign Rashford to a short-term contract. Rashford and his representation have had discussions with the Italian powerhouses, but the two teams have not come to an agreement.
Rashford hasn’t featured for United since December 12 despite having seven goals in 24 games across all competitions this season.
