It was an afternoon filled with wasted goal-scoring opportunities, a touch of class and an incredible mindset. Manchester United recorded an emphatic victory over their opponent, Everton.
The Red Devils were coming from the back of their win against Brentford at Old Trafford on Wednesday. They hosted Everton at the same ground and continued from where they left off.
Everton were hoping to do the unthinkable by becoming the first side to defeat Man United at Old Trafford in this season’s top-flight since Brighton and Hove Albion in the first game of the season.
The first half was a total master-class from United as they had 21 attempts at goal – the most they have had in their top-flight history. But only one of those attempts hit the back of the net.

Scott McTominay profited from Jadon Sancho’s intelligent pass in the Everton’s penalty area to poke the ball home in the 36th minute.
Everton should have Jordan Pickford to thank as he literally kept Erik ten Hag’s men at bay with some astonishing saves in the first 45 minutes.
The second half was almost the same as the first as United began to dominate proceedings in the lunch-time kickoff.

United’s intense pressure later paid off in the 71st minute as Marcus Rashford capitalised on Seamus Coleman’s error around the penalty area. Rashford then teed up Anthony Martial who hit the ball beyond Pickford to give the Red Devils a two goal cushion in the afternoon.
In the end, Man United picked up the maximum points and went three points clear of Newcastle United in 4th position. Everton on the other hand are rooted in the 16th position.
