Man United Consider Move For £68M Rated Midfielder As Ugarte Transfer Stalls

Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Morten Hjulmand as the transfer move for Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain stalled.

The Red Devils are looking to add a new central midfield player this summer, and Ugarte is thought to be the team’s top target.

But PSG are reportedly holding out for €70 million (£58.9 million) for the Uruguay international. If the French champions don’t lower their demands, United may have to go elsewhere.

Hjulmand was linked to Man United earlier this year, and as cited from Sport Mole the Red Devils are seriously considering a summer transfer for the Denmark international.

The 25-year-old played well for his nation in Euro 2024. His major highlight came against England in the group stage when he scored a long-range goal.

The midfield player began his professional career with Admira Wacker before switching to Lecce in January 2021, having come via Copenhagen’s development system.

Sporting signed him in the summer of 2023 after he displayed his abilities for Lecce. The Dane played a crucial role for the Portuguese strongholds in the previous campaign, tallying four goals and providing out four assists in 49 games.

Hjulmand’s contract with his Portuguese club expires in June 2028. But there is a release clause in the agreement that might be used to demand the whole €80 million (£67.4 million) in payment.

Because of this, Hjulmand might not be a more affordable alternative than Ugarte. And it is hard to see the Red Devils paying a premium for the Dane if he isn’t their top target.
