Man United Considering Move For 27-Year-Old Euro 2024 Winner

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper, Unai Simon next summer.

According to Spanish publication Fichajes as reported by the Hard Tackle, United are very interested in Simon. The Red Devils are considering strengthening their goalkeeping options for the upcoming season.

As a result, the 27-year-old Athletic Club goalie has become a target. And the Premier League top club are willing to pay a hefty price to acquire the UEFA Euro 2024 winner in the 2025 summer window.

Since making his debut in the first team at the Basque club a few years ago, Simon has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in La Liga.

Spanish by birth, the player joined Athletic Club in 2011 after leaving CD Aurrera de Vitoria. He spent his early years in his native Vitoria-Gasteiz.

However, despite making his first-team debut at the start of the 2018–19 season, the 27-year-old had to wait his turn to establish himself as the clear first-choice goalie.

For the past five years, Simon has been the Basque outfit’s first choice in goal, starting almost 200 games, keeping 66 clean sheets, and conceding 202 goals.

Though a little unexpected, Man United’s interest in Simon seems logical. For the Premier League giants, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton have been the backup goalkeepers to Andre Onana.

Onana, though, has made a lot of blunders since his arrival from Inter Milan last summer.
