Manchester United are expected to part ways with the security firm that left a device inside Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, which prompted the abandonment of their Premier League clash with Bournemouth.
Prior to kick-off at Old Trafford, large parts of the stadium were evacuated before the game was completely abandoned and postponed until Tuesday night as authorities took care of the situation.
News of a bomb scare was reported around social media prior to the confirmation that the suspected package inside the stadium was actually a dummy device designed to look like a bomb that had been left there following a recent training exercise.
The Telegraph are now reporting that United are expected to dispense the service of the company who left the device stuck to the back of a toilet door inside Old Trafford.
The dummy bomb was a mobile phone attached to piping to make it appear like a real threat for a security exercise, but Security Search Management & Solutions – who were hired by United’s usual dog trainers Deacon’s Canines – failed to collect the device before ending their practice run.
The club’s chief, Ed Woodward, will now head an investigation into the incident and it is likely that United will part ways with the security firm, who only admitted fault once contacted by the local police.
