Ahead of the Manchester United’s 2-0 Europa League final triumph over Ajax in Stockholm, a curious image emerged a Red Devils supporter wearing a Griezmann jersey with No. 7 on his back.
It is a possibility that could become reality this summer with the beginning of the transfer market window, of course.
The latest statements of the French striker, in which he did not close the door to signing for the Old Trafford club, have triggered alarms at Atletico Madrid. Curiously, no player is currently wearing the No. 7 at United.
Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand believes his former club Manchester United should prioritise a summer move for Griezmann over any potential deal for James Rodriguez.
The Red Devils are expected to enjoy a productive summer transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to put his stamp on the squad.
Atletico Madrid forward Griezmann has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford – the Frenchman said he had a 6/10 chance of joining the club earlier in the week.
United are also being linked with Real Madrid’s Rodriguez, who could be on the move this summer and is said to be keen on securing a switch to the Premier League.
When asked which player he would sign for United if he was given £70million to spend, Ferdinand told BT Sport: ‘For what Manchester United need, I would go for Griezmann.
‘They’ve got [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan and [Juan] Mata – players who can play in that number 10 role, where Rodriguez likes to operate – so I would go for Griezmann.’
