Man United Forward Seals £26M Transfer

Manchester United forward, Mason Greenwood has reportedly completed a £26 million move to Marseille.

The sale of the 22-year-old this summer has beaten a post-Sir Alex Ferguson record for United with the forward leaving Old Trafford.

Greenwood’s efforts last season, following his loan to Getafe, drew attention as he featured in 33 games in La Liga with eight goals and six assists. Although they were unwilling to pay United’s asking price, the Spanish team were eager to sign him to a long-term contract.

This attracted interest from Lazio and Marseille, among other teams. And given that the Athletic as claimed by Manchester Evening News, a transfer deal has been completed with both United and Marseille for the player.

After receiving criticism from supporters and the Marseille mayor, the move was initially put into doubt. Following his arrest for attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and violence, Greenwood was suspended in January 2022.

However, the case was later dropped, and all charges were eventually withdrawn.

United will get an initial payment of €27.6 million (£23.3 million) from Marseille. Add-ons could increase the amount to €31.6 million (£26.7 million). Given that Greenwood graduated from the academy, the profit will be the highest since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
