Man United ‘Hold Talks’ With Greenwood Deal As Ratcliffe Gets His Wish

Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Marseille for Mason Greenwood as the plan to sell the forward took a leap.

Following an internal investigation into his arrest and the eventual retraction of the allegations against him, the 22-year-old was banished from the Red Devils team.

After 20 months out, Greenwood signed a loan agreement with Getafe at the start of 2023–2024. In 36 games for the Spanish team, Greenwood contributed 16 goals.

The 22-year-old was desired by Getafe to sign a new loan agreement. But Sir Jim Ratcliffe would prefer to transfer Greenwood permanently this summer for a reported £40 million.

Several elite clubs have expressed interest in signing the United outcast, including Napoli, Juventus, and Valencia. But they haven’t been able to come to an agreement as of yet.

According to The Athletic as reported by TeamTalk, club-to-club conversations have already taken place regarding a possible move. And Marseille are believed to be “exploring a deal” for Greenwood.

Given that Roberto de Zerbi will soon be unveiled as their new manager. The former Brighton boss may make Greenwood his first acquisition at the French side.

Although the talks are reportedly at an “early stage,” a transfer might happen soon given the Red Devils’ obvious desire to sell.

Man Utd and Marseille are “yet to discuss” finances, according to the report, although both outfits are eager for a deal to be finalized.

While negotiations over personal terms have not yet started, Greenwood is rumored to “favour” a move to Marseille above other possibilities at this time.

The French club are trying to sign a replacement for Iliman Ndiaye, who is expected to sign a contract to join Everton permanently.
