Man United ‘Identify’ Man Who Signed Rodri, Alvarez As Potential Ashworth Replacement

Manchester United are reportedly keen on Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta as a potential replacement for the departing sporting director Dan Ashworth.

According to reports, the club thought about Berta as a potential head of recruitment around this time last year. Prior to hiring Johan Lange as their new technical director, Tottenham Hotspur were also said to have expressed interest.

Berta was also courted by Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, but he stayed at Atletico and was promoted from technical director to sporting director. However, it appears that the Italian will go at the end of current season after spending 11 years in the Spanish city.

That will be the case, according to GianlucaDiMarzio.com as reported by Manchester Evening News, which also notes that Berta is one of the possible Ashworth replacements that United are keeping an eye on.

The outlet indicates that a move would happen in the upcoming months, therefore there wouldn’t be a new man available for the winter transfer window.

However, according to French publications, PSG would compete with United if they were to seek the sporting director who was awarded the best in the world at the 2019 Globe Soccer Awards.

Though, Luis Campos, their football advisor, is negotiating an extension on his contract, which expires at the end of this season.

Joao Felix’s £113 million arrival is what Berta has been most familiar with during the past ten years. Rodri, who had been purchased from Villarreal for under £20 million, moved to Manchester City that same summer for £63 million. Last summer, Atletico agreed to pay City £82 million to sign Julian Alvarez.
