Manchester United have reportedly added England manager, Gareth Southgate to the list of Erik ten Hag’s possible replacements.
As they work to mold the team in their image, the new minority owners—Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS—are expected to split ways with Ten Hag prior to the start of the upcoming season at Old Trafford.
ESPN maintains that Ten Hag’s future is still up in the air. But 90min reported that INEOS is considering all of their options and Southgate has surfaced as a potential contender for the job.
Southgate is under contract with England until the end of 2024. A decision regarding his future is expected to be made following this summer’s European Championship.
Southgate has previously worked with INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford and United’s top sporting director target Dan Ashworth.
After being fired by Middlesbrough in 2009, the 53-year-old didn’t pursue a career in club football. But he has previously stated that his time with England has equipped him for any future employment.

The United’s hierarchy are also considering Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton. But if they opt to split ways with Ten Hag, they are reportedly considering a long list of possible targets.
This summer, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona have all begun the search for new managers. United officials understand that they cannot afford to be caught off guard should they need to fill a managerial vacancy.
