Man United ‘Learn Asking Price For PSV’s Cody Gakpo’

PSV Eindhoven are reportedly seeking a club-record fee to approve the transfer of Manchester United-linked winger Cody Gakpo in 2023.

After a stellar season with PSV, the Netherlands international piqued the interest of several Premier League clubs during the summer transfer window.

Man United, Arsenal, Southampton, and Leeds United were all connected with a bid for Gakpo, but nothing came of it, and he stayed at the Philips Stadion.

The 23-year-old has had another strong start to the current season under Ruud van Nistelrooy, with 10 goals and nine assists in 14 games across all competitions.

Gakpo extended his contract with PSV until 2026 earlier this year, but the club could be forced to sell if a better offer comes in.

What Is PSV Asking Price For Gakpo?

As per Football Transfers, PSV would want to make Gakpo their most expensive transfer to sanction a sale in January, a record currently held by Hirving Lozano.

The Mexico international joined Napoli in the summer of 2019 for a fee of €45m (£39.6m), and potential suitors could expect to be charged at least £40m to acquire Gakpo.

According to the report, Manchester United and Southampton are both ready to compete for Gakpo’s signature in the January transfer window, and Everton will join them in the contest.

Meanwhile, Arsenal appear to have cooled their interest in the Dutch forward, who Erik ten Hag believes would be a great addition to his forward line as he continues to shape the squad into his vision.

Gakpo revealed after the transfer window closed that he was expecting to join Manchester United and that he couldn’t make a quick decision on another club after a move to Old Trafford fell through.

“Manchester United had reported at the beginning of the transfer window. We were waiting for that a bit. The signals became more and more positive and at a certain point I thought it might fall in that direction,” Gakpo told PSV TV.

“That option faded a bit and completely last week. We worked the whole window towards it. Until last week I thought I would go to Manchester United. It was all last minute for me, because until last week I thought I was going to Manchester [United].

“Then it was ‘choose another club’ and decide whether I wanted to go there. That is not nice for PSV and also not for me, because it felt rushed. I’m glad it’s over. For me it was the first window where it was stay or go.
