Man United Legend Advises Fernandes On How To Be Great Captain

Manchester United legend, Roy Keane has reportedly advised Bruno Fernandes on how to become one of the club’s great captains.

This is coming after Erik ten Hag announced the Portugal international as the new Red Devils’ skipper after Harry Maguire was stripped of it.

It is another illustration of Ten Hag’s ability to make quick decisions and his ruthlessness as a coach. Fernandes, who had skippered 42 games in the previous season, cements his place in history with the selection.

As soon as the Maguire call became known to the public, he was the front-runner to fill the role. Even before that, calls for Captain Fernandes could be heard.

The timing is ideal for the 28-year-old to finally step up to the pitch and lead United into the next stage of the Ten Hag era. As he enters his fifth season as a player and his fourth full one.

Roy Keane, one of United’s most recognizable captains of the twenty-first century, is undoubtedly someone Fernandes will aim to emulate. Additionally, he can find inspiration in some of the Irishman’s earlier remarks.

“Being captain is a bonus I feel,” said Keane back in 2003, Manchester Evening News reported.

“When you’ve got 11 players out there, you should all have the same aim to try and win the football match – and basically do anything for each other once you cross that white line.

“I think action is different; we can all talk the talk. But I think the most important thing is how I perform, when I’m trying to lead in the right way.”
