Bryan Robson believes Alexis Sanchez boasts all the qualities needed to become an iconic No.7 for Manchester United.
The Arsenal forward has just over a year remaining on his current contract and is widely expected to leave the north London club this summer, following a disastrous run of form that has placed the Gunners’ involvement in next season’s Champions League in severe jeopardy.
While Arsene Wenger maintains he is relaxed about Sanchez’s contractual situation, the player himself is reportedly already making plans to leave in the close season with Chelsea said to be his preferred destination.
Mourinho, meanwhile, is reported to have contacted the versatile forward personally in a bid to convince him to move to Old Trafford in the summer and emulate Robin van Persie who left the Emirates for United in controversial circumstances five years
ago.
Robson, the former club captain who wore the No.7 shirt with distinction, believes the Chile international would fit in perfectly under Mourinho.
He told Sport Witness: ‘I know that Sanchez seems to be a bit unsettled at Arsenal.
‘He wears number seven at Arsenal. I wouldn’t mind seeing Sanchez come in wearing the number seven for Manchester United.’
