After the Dutchman was fired this week, van Nistelrooy took over as interim manager. The former United striker had rejoined Old Trafford in the summer as part of Erik ten Hag’s team.
The interim coach guided the Red Devils to a thrilling 5-2 victory over Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and Bruno Fernandes scored a brace in his debut game in the hot seat.
There has been much speculation on whether van Nistelrooy would remain in his position as assistant, especially since Amorim was announced as ten Hag’s successor today and the Portuguese is scheduled to come from Sporting Lisbon on November 11.
The team at Old Trafford appears to be solidly in the camp, pleading for the 48-year-old to stay.
The players have expressed their internal belief that Ruud should continue at Man United, even if Amorim took over as manager, reports Mail Online.
Today, Amorim was named the Red Devils’ next manager after the club’s management moved swiftly to find a successor for ten Hag.
Portuguese player will sign a two-and-a-half-year contract that the club may extend for an additional year if they so want.
