Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for former Chelsea technical director Christopher Vivell this summer.
Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe purchased a 27.7% share in his childhood club last season, the Red Devils have experienced substantial behind-the-scenes changes. The Ineos CEO is looking for many “best in class” candidates to take on key responsibilities at Old Trafford.
Omar Berrada, the club’s new chief executive, will be arriving from Manchester City later this month. On Monday, a deal was eventually reached with Newcastle United for Dan Ashworth to take over as United’s new sports director.
Meanwhile, The Athletic as claimed by The Mirror, has learned that Vivell is presently in talks with United about a contract that would initially see him join the team on a temporary basis. This indicates that United are getting close to adding another man behind the scenes.
If a contract can be reached, Vivell, 37, will provide his knowledge of talent identification and recruitment. The German used to work for RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig.
Vivell worked for Red Bull for more than six years in total. And he was involved in the deal that brought Erling Haaland to Austria.
Vivell had a very successful stint in Germany before Chelsea recruited him to the Premier League in December 2022 in an attempt to improve the way they sign players. However, Vivell’s stay at Stamford Bridge was brief.

Vivell was hired by Todd Boehly to replace Petr Cech in the long term. But after just seven months, he was put on gardening leave.
At the time, it was said that Vivell had greater authority than Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley. But after a reorganization, he was forced to report to them.
