Ajax defender, Jurrien Timber has revealed his intention to play alongside Manchester United’s defender, Lisandro Martinez.
The duo were defensive partners when Martinez was still plying his trade at the Dutch club. And now, a report has emerged that the defender is already reminiscing about playing with the Argentine at the heart of United’s defense.
Prior to the 21-year-old’s decision to stay in Amsterdam for an additional year. Erik ten Hag, who coached him at Ajax, had Timber as one of his top transfer targets last summer.
Timber has been rumored with a move to Liverpool this year due to rumors that his girlfriend is “house hunting” on Merseyside.
The Reds are hoping to make significant squad changes this summer after a poor campaign that will end without a title and likely outside the top four.
What Did Timber Say About His Future At Ajax?
Timber has finally made his intent that he will be departing Ajax this summer. As he stated in an interview with the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf as reported by Mirror Football: “A transfer is getting closer and closer, so to speak. There is a lot of concrete interest and I have made agreements with Ajax.
“Last year, Ajax asked me to stay for at least one more season and to extend my contract. As a club boy I did that with love and after the season we agreed to review the situation.”

Both United and Liverpool place a high value on timber. But a deal may be challenging given that both clubs’ resources are expected to be diverted elsewhere this summer.
While negotiations to bring in right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen are ongoing. United are also prioritizing the acquisition of a new striker and goalkeeper. Liverpool are rumored to be prioritizing the acquisition of several new midfielders.
