Man United Set Sights On Portuguese Star With £51M Release Clause

Manchester United are reportedly keen on Sporting Lisbon defender, Goncalo Inacio, who has £51 million release clause written in his contract.

In the near future, the Red Devils intend to submit a bid for the 22-year-old defender.

With six caps for his country, Inacio has been called up by Roberto Martinez for Portugal’s Euro 2024 squad.

Liverpool may present a challenge to United’s pursuit of the two-time Portuguese title winner.

According to O Jogo as reported by Daily Mail, United are getting ready to submit a bid.

The report also asserts that the Red Devils have been keeping tabs on the youngster for some time and that their interest in him is unrelated to Erik ten Hag’s status.

Ten Hag is still in his position despite United’s decision to dismiss him ahead of the FA Cup final, with widespread reports to the contrary.

Since moving up to Sporting’s first team in the 2020–21 season, Inacio has won two Portuguese league titles, two Cups, and a Super Cup.

He could add some versatility to United’s defense as he has also filled in at left back for Ruben Amorim’s team.

In December, it was reported that Arsenal were interested in him. The 22-year-old was one of five players, who scored a penalty that eliminated the Gunners from the 2022–2023 UEFA Europa League.

One position that United need to strengthen after losing Raphael Varane is centre-back.

Varane, who cost £42 million when he signed from Real Madrid, departed Old Trafford at the end of the season after three years and 93 appearances.

In central defence, Ten Hag currently has Martinez, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and Willy Kambwala as options.
