Man United Set To Rival Man City For Transfer Of Premier League Flop

Manchester United are reportedly ready to battle Manchester City for the acquisition of Sporting Lisbon winger, Francisco Trincao in the summer transfer window.

Despite doing poorly during his previous Premier League stint at Wolves, the former Barcelona player has continued to thrive in Portugal. He was brought to the Portuguese capital by Ruben Amorim, who is anticipated to target a number of his former players.

However, according to A Bola as cited by The Mirror, Sporting director Hugo Viana is joining the Etihad Stadium’s hierarchy and might try to raid the Portuguese team as well. This might spark an internal conflict in the city of Manchester.

However, as interest in the winger grows, the Lisbon team intend to keep Trincao and are looking to table the offer of a new contract.

The 25-year-old has scored nine goals this season and played more minutes than any other player in Sporting’s ranks as he attempts to reach double figures for the third consecutive season.

After being signed by Barca from Braga, Trincao spent a year with the Spanish giants. His time at the Nou Camp was brief, and the next year he was loaned to Wolves.

However, he was unable to make the cut, so Sporting stepped in and signed him both on loan and permanently.

It’s unlikely that Trincao will be the lone player Sporting have to ward off summer suitors. After two amazing seasons in Portugal, where he has been very productive, Viktor Gyokeres is expected to move on.

Geovany Quenda has also been linked to Amorim and United.
