Manchester United defender, Raphael Varane has reportedly accepted Erik ten Hag’s decision to start Harry Maguire over him in recent matches.
Varane is falling down in defensive ranks. In the Red Devils’ last eight games in all competitions, he has only started one. Thanks to players like Jonny Evans, Maguire, and Victor Lindelof, Ten Hag’s aims have progressed significantly.
Varane has only played 18 minutes in the last five Premier League games, thus he has been forced to settle for cameo appearances. He was called upon to help seal the victory over Luton on Saturday, taking Sergio Reguilon’s place at the back.
According to The Athletic as cited by The Mirror, despite having a challenging season, the former World Cup winner has ‘accepted’ Ten Hag’s decision to bench him for tactical reasons. The 30-year-old’s surrounding figures further demonstrate that players that are cast out by Ten Hag can always find a way back.
Maguire, who was relieved of captaincy in the summer but has started all eight of the team’s remaining games, is proof of that. Ten Hag has often had to justify his choice of the much-maligned Englishman over Varane.

After a terrible start to the season, the Dutchman was questioned once more prior to the close triumph over Luton, which has relieved some of the pressure on him. Furthermore, he emphasized that Maguire’s selection is based solely on form.
United will be back in action against Everton at the Goodison Park after the international break. Following that, they will take the trip down to Turkey to face Galatasaray in their penultimate match in the UEFA Champions League.
