Manchester United have reportedly submitted bids for Bayern Munich defensive duo, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, with both deals said to have been rejected by the German club.
The Red Devils are in the midst of a rebuild this summer. And Sir Jim Ratcliffe is pushing for significant changes in terms of both in- and out-goings before the 2024–25 season.
In an attempt to add some young talent to the team, Erik ten Hag has already welcomed two high-profile additions to his roster this summer. Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, who chose to join the team despite attention from other teams.
In defense, more additions are anticipated; a right-back and another center-back are being considered.
The Athletic claims that Old Trafford’s higher authorities tried to accomplish two targets at once by putting up a bid for both De Ligt and Mazraoui.
The agents of both players anticipated that the fees would meet Bayern’s standards. Therefore United were hopeful that the deal would have been accepted. But according to Daily Express, the Old Trafford giants were “bemused” when the offer was turned down.

Those who believed they knew what would be required for Bayern to accept the offer were taken aback when the Red Devils were informed that a higher fee would be necessary to bring the double transaction across the finish line.
De Ligt and Mazraoui have both personally agreed to join United. And they even have contracts in place. If an agreement is reached, both players would sign five-year contracts at the Theatre of Dreams with the option of an additional year.
