Manchester United have reportedly told Jose Mourinho that the manager’s job is his if Louis van Gaal leaves in the summer, according to Daily Express.
Mourinho has been heavily tipped to replace Van Gaal at Old Trafford at the end of the season.
The Dutchman has struggled at United this term, with the club missing out on a top-four spot and needing a win against Crystal Palace on Saturday in the FA Cup final to clinch a spot in next season’s Europa League.
And according to Sky Sports, if the club’s owners decide to sack Van Gaal at the end of the season, Mourinho has been told the United job will be his in the summer.
However the report adds that Van Gaal is still likely to remain Man United manager for next season.
Mouinho, who has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea back in December, revealed earlier this month he planned to be back in managment in June.
But when asked last night where he would be next month, he told Sky Sports: “I’m going to Montreal with a sponsor for the Grand Prix.
“I’m just enjoying my life.”
And when asked if he has a deal with United, he replied: “Nobody.”
