Manchester United will allegedly need to make a significant sale during the January transfer window to complete a mid-season deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes.
The Portugal international is said to be Man United’s top target for the left-sided wing-back position at Old Trafford, which has proven to be extremely difficult for head coach Ruben Amorim.
Luke Shaw’s chronic muscle troubles have forced Diogo Dalot to play in that position, but the Portugal international has struggled to make an impact and is far more comfortable down the right.
Tyrell Malacia is back after nearly 18 months out with a devastating knee injury, but the Netherlands international has struggled in his limited action this term and is not thought to be in Amorim’s long-term plans.

Manchester United ‘need a sale’ to secure Mendes contract.
Mendes is said to be the club’s top option, with the 22-year-old in the final 18 months of his contract in Paris and seeking for a new challenge.
PSG are likely to sell Mendes this year if a new contract cannot be reached, despite his reputation as a crucial player. The left-back has made 17 appearances this season, scoring twice and assisting twice.
According to The Independent, in order to reach PSG’s €60 million (£50 million) value, Manchester United will need to sell owing to financial regulations.
According to the article, the 20-time English winners are currently behind PSG asking price .
They have not yet indicated a willingness to satisfy Mendes’ pay demands due to their precarious condition.
Would Mendes make a good signing for Manchester United?
Mendes won a Primeira Liga title at Sporting under Amorim, and the fact that he understands the demands of the current Manchester United manager and the 3-4-3 system makes him an appealing addition for the Red Devils.
The Portuguese is without a doubt one of Europe’s top left-sided defenders, having made 100 games for PSG, scoring five goals and assisting 13 times, winning six trophies in total.
Man United need a specialist down the left, and Mendes meets the brief, so it is not difficult to see why Amorim is so keen on him.
