According to The Athletic, Manchester United is certain that they will eventually be forced to accept a monetary settlement for Dan Ashworth’s departure due to Newcastle United’s problems with sustainability and profitability.
Ashworth informed Newcastle that he wanted to join Manchester United, and the club responded by putting him on gardening leave.

The Red Devils have already formally asked Newcastle to begin talks about Ashworth being their new sporting director.
Manchester United is unwilling to pay Newcastle’s asking price of approximately £20 million before agreeing to release the 52-year-old from his contract.
Old Trafford is optimistic that Newcastle will ultimately consent to a monetary settlement, though.
It has been claimed that Manchester United believe Newcastle’s issues with the Premier League’s PSR guidelines will push them towards working out a deal for Ashworth’s exit.
For the moment, Newcastle are continuing to pay a football executive who has made it clear that he wants to leave.
The Magpies are also hoping to keep Ashworth away from Old Trafford until at least the summer transfer window closes.
